About Tanya
Tanya Chichekian, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Pedagogy at the Université de Sherbrooke (Longueuil campus). Her research draws on the underlying motivational processes that lead to an optional functioning in education as well as the design of learning environments that foster knowledge transfer in higher education. She is particularly interested in studying contexts in which high-achieving students experience successes and failures, and has done most of her work in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Tanya received her B.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics Education from McGill University and her M.A. and Phd in the Learning Sciences from McGill University as well under the mentorship of Bruce Shore. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Research Laboratory on Social Behavior at Université du Québec À Montréal under the mentorship of Robert Vallerand.
In her free time, Tanya enjoys exploring Montreal, listening to podcasts, doing yoga, reading, renovating her house, and spending time with her dog, Drako.
